Wai Hin Ko Ko

Wai Hin Ko Ko’s music combines both elements of traditional music of Myanmar and Western music. He grew up in a small town near Mandalay, where the traditional music was flourished once upon a time. As a Christian, he also grew up listening to music at church. As a professional popular songwriter in Myanmar, he also composes Christian music for the churches in Myanmar. In 2016, he composed a cross-cultural composition for traditional ensemble of Myanmar and Western orchestra, which brought him fame and recognition in his native country. Since then, he is well known as a young composer who writes orchestral music in Myanmar. Since 2015, he has participated in the Nirmita Composers' Workshop as a young composer who represents Myanmar, and studied with Chinary Ung, Sean Heim, among others.
Recently, he is interested in exploring his cultural root as a Myanmar composer, researches the ancient traditional music, and composing new works for the traditional ensemble, while still practicing Western compositions for western string orchestra and chamber music. As achievement, he was honored as the best music producer for a singing competition theme song in 2017. he was invited as a festival artist (as a composer) in BUU festival 2018 which was held in Burapha university, Thailand. He won first prize in the composition competition of Music Society of Myanmar in 2019 and his work was premiered at the Gala concert. His piece “Myine Wathan” was premiered in Myanmar Music Festival and honored by the organization in 2019. He is studying composition for the Master of Fine Arts degree in Burapha University as scholarship student under the supervisor of Professor Dr. Koji Nakano.
